Whole 30 month, Day 1. Today we officially started our Whole 30 diet. No cheating!
OK…I cheated. While packaging up the rest of the cookies to give to a friend I ate one…WITHOUT EVEN THINKING…I know. I suck. Oh well, we thought today may not be a start day anyway due to plans we thought we had, but when they fell through…well no excuses anymore right?
LETS DO DIS SHIZ.
I’m going to try and be diligent in recording each meal, but I’ll at least make sure to do dinner.
The TLDR Version
For dinner we had Zucchini Pasta with Lemon Garlic Skrimps. For the recipe, click below. Also, read to the end to learn the shocking result of our Mayo Saga from yesterday!
The Whole (30) Story
First of all, I’m going to come clean. I know Stevia is kinda-not-technically on the diet but I just can’t drink completely unsweet coffee. Yet I can’t give up coffee b/c I need it for sanity, wakefulness, and to quell the drive for murder so…I’m putting a stevia packet in my coffee. Judge if you must, but I know y’all ain’t saints either so when I find your vices, I will poke them. 😛
So far, the biggest notable thing I’ve noticed is how sugar is in EVERYTHING (Also wheat, milk, and corn starch/solids). And I mean everything: Lunch meat, sauces, canned goods, anything processed, even spices. I’m gonna say this again…NOT EVEN SPICES ARE SAFE. America…y’all have issues. No wonder we feel like garbage most of the time.
Now onto Zoodles. Yeah, they’re probably better with parmesan or some nice crusty bread to mop up the lemon-garlic sauce. But overall, pretty damn tasty. To the recipe above we added a sugar and other-crap free seasoning mixture (the Cherry Creek Sea Food Seasoning from Savory Spices to be exact).
Here are our impressions:
Eric: You gave me too much. These bowls are big.
James: It’s all vegetables man, you’re gonna eat it all.
Eric: It’s ok, I’ll just put the leftovers in a tupperware for tomorrow.
James: It’s all vegetables man, you’re gonna eat it all.
Eric: Maybe I’d eat it all if it were covered in CHEESE!
20 minutes later, Eric demolishes his bowl and goes for seconds.
James sits back in his chair with a self-satisfied smirk, placing his knee upon the table.
Eric: Shut up!
Le sigh…I liked it (and went back for seconds). Let’s see if I’m starving tomorrow morning.
The Menu
This menu does not include water, but I drink a lot of that. Will prob drink more to keep myself from snacking, too.
- Breakfast
- 1 Hard Boiled Egg w/ green tobasco, S&P
- 1 cup berries
- 1/2 avocado with garlic salt & lime juice
- Coffee w/ coconut milk
- Lunch
- Almonds w/ S&P, olive oil, herbs
- Curry chicken salad on lettuce
- Apple
- Coconut Milk London Fog (From previous post)
- Dinner
- Zucchini Pasta with Lemon Garlic Skrimps
- Waterloo Grape seltzer
- Coconut La Croix** seltzer & muddled raspberry “mocktail”
**So I know Waterloo seltzer is actually whole 30 approved whereas La Croix isn’t though it’s not sweetened at all. I think this has to do with some claims that the “natural flavors” in La Croix are not good for you (and apparently also not vegan? IDK…beaver gland excretions or something? I’m too lazy to research it but if anyone knows, please post links!). However, from my viewpoint, they are virtually the same so I’ma drink them all. So sue me (if you were the Grand Cheeto, you might try!).
Mayo Saga (con’t)
HOLYSHIT YOU GUYS, IT LOOKS LIKE MAYO NOW! So I take it back. I take it all back…we got mayo right on the first try. How many of you can say that? Hmm? Hmm?
I guess all it had to do was chill for 24 hours? I feel like this is a lesson for life. If you feel too runny(?) with your emotions…chill for 24 hours and you’ll…?…no…I lost it. 😛
That’s it for day 1. If you have any great Whole 30 recipes, please let us know. We need at least 29×3 of them if we try to mix up our lunches & breakfasts.
Stay weird! Love ya!
